Окей)
My last post "Training and Tactics" has gotten too big so I'm posting the strafe jumping section in this thread instead. --------------------
Strafe Jumping
--------------------
I'd advise anyone whom is having trouble to watch my tutorial video on you tube * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUYCLwr63C4 * but I'll explain a little more in detail here if I can.
To strafe jump you have to jump, over and over again as soon as you land whilst alternating the strafe keys (A and D) and also aiming the mouse from side to side. Really, it's easy once you get the hang of it!
What you want to do is start at around a 90 degree angle from the direction you wish to travel and then press Forward, jump and the strafe key that correspond with your mouse movement. Then jump again once you land and change direction with the mouse and also the strafe key.
I'll try and explain with a diagram:

Sorry if that doesn't make sense... but then, it might help someone.
Key things to remember are:
- Aim to jump before you land. There will be a short delay between you thinking "JUMP" and actually clicking the mouse, timing is everything.
- At the start you can gain good take-off speed by circle jumping, that is, starting at a 90 degree angle to the intended direction of travel.
- Keep your mouse movement smooth, and angles at around 30 - 45 degrees from the direction of travel. It's the combination of facing at an angle and strafing that exploits the strafe jumping physics and generates speed.
- Practise!
Strafe jumping can be used to jump distances normally impossible, it just takes practice. Also, you can use ramps to gain more height. Stair jumps are simply circle jumps but at the top of a ramp.

Advanced Movement
-------------------------
I shouldn't need to explain what a Rocket Jump is but, it may need an advanced explanation. Very basically you aim at the ground with the rocket launcher, fire and jump at the same time to gain the most height. Simple. But there are ways of utilizing this a little more effectively.
One often overlooked trait is that you can fire 'after' you've jumped, this won't gain you as much height as the above but will reduce the HP loss that you sustain. So keep that in mind when jumping small heights. Another is that it's easier to gain the most height with a rocket jump if you jump backwards... why? Just because! You can try it yourself. Go to Phrantic2 and try to rocket jump from the ground to the Red Teleporter spawn. Now try it backwards.
You'll have seen people use the rocket launcher to travel at great speed horizontally right? Well most people, in my opinion, do this wrong. Most people aim at a wall then fire and jump. However I've found a more effective way of doing this, and you don't need a wall!
Simply aim at the ground and press fire and forward, do not jump! Try it, you'll see what I mean. Use this to get out of tight situations quickly.
Remember, all well designed maps have shortcuts that advanced players can take advantage of. Take time to find them and learn them, it'll only help you.
See you
